Gachagua reveals how he cornered US Senator Chris Coons in a meeting to seek a peace deal with the Azimio coalition.

On Sunday, April 16, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua disclosed how he cornered US Senator Chris Coons at their meeting to discuss a potential dialogue between President William Ruto and Raila Odinga of Azimio.

Speaking during an interview on Inooro TV’s Kiririmbi, Gachagua claimed that the US Senator was at pains to explain the fallout between the 45th US President Donald Trump, and his successor, President Joe Biden.

The DP asked a question to shed light on why Trump was not invited to join Biden’s administration following the election.

Gachagua observed that when it comes to finding solutions to their problems, the US and Kenya read different scripts.

“I told him yes, I would also want for peace to prevail in Kenya but in the US, after Trump lost and there was a lot of unrest, why did you not invite him and give him half the government?” Gachagua posed.

“I told him to tell Raila that we would not sit down for talks and that if he wants to talk to us, he should talk to his MPs to talk to our MPs (in Parliament),” he added.

On Unga prices, he promised that the cost would lower to Ksh159 by Tuesday as he credited President Ruto’s efforts for striking a deal with foreign partners.

At the same time, he disregarded Raila – blaming the handshake government for the woes that befell the country.

“There’s nothing to discuss with him as they are the same people who destroyed this country and there’s no new style of thinking that he can offer us since he was in the handshake government. During that time, Unga price was Ksh230, I would like to tell Kenyans that the cost of Unga will come down to Ksh159 from Tuesday.

“In only 7 months, gas prices have gone down, cooking oil has gone down, Unga is coming down, fertiliser dropped from Ksh7,000 to Ksh3,500.”

Regarding the salary delays, the DP affirmed that all government officials were paid.

“All of them were paid. We knew it was not sustainable to borrow loans to pay their salaries, hence we consolidated our resources and paid all of them.”
