DP Gachagua details how Kalonzo Musyoka tried to join government after Supreme Court upheld Ruto's win

DP Gachagua details how Kalonzo Musyoka tried to join government after Supreme Court upheld Ruto’s win.

After the Supreme Court affirmed President William Ruto’s victory in 2022, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka nearly joined Kenya Kwanza, according to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Gachagua revealed on Monday, July 31 while speaking to professionals from Kitui County at the Bomas of Kenya that Ruto had approached Kalonzo, pushing him to join government after being proclaimed President-elect.

Kalonzo turned down the offer in favor of holding off till the Supreme Court decided on Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio la Umoja, suit.

Gachagua asserted that just after the supreme court rejected the appeal contesting Ruto’s victory, the Wiper leader approached some prominent Kenya Kwanza members.

“After they were defeated in the Supreme Court, he came back and we told him that he was late. That is when he decided to go for the speaker’s position in Parliament,” he stated.

Gachagua argued that despite the failure of the Kalonzo accord, Ruto was eager to collaborate with Ukambani leaders, which is why he appointed Alfred Mutua as cabinet secretary for foreign affairs, Monica Juma as national security adviser, and Penina Malonza as cabinet secretary for tourism.

Additionally, Malonza’s position was saved by Ruto, according to Gachagua, after Kenya Kwanza MPs opposed her nomination.

“The President and I made a decision to start with this lady and we told our MPs to support her and we even organized a church service there to lobby for support. We overturned those things and today she is the CS.

“In terms of commitment passion, zeal, focus and hard work, this lady has no equal in the cabinet,” the DP stated.

The DP’s comments were in response to Ruto’s remarks from April, in which the Head of State said Kalonzo had been offered a job in government but turned it down.

Unconfirmed sources claim that the Wiper Party Leader had been assigned key cabinet position, Foreign Affairs docket.

“I looked for Kalonzo and we sat down after last year’s election and I urged him to take a post and join my government but he flatly refused and opted to remain in the Opposition,” Ruto stated then.
