The enraged refugees, gathered in large numbers, chanting slogans demanding their right to basic necessities. “Haki yetu, haki yetu,” the refugees sang in unison.

A refugee identifying himself as Garang Bull stated that their only demand from President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government is food and shelter.

He also expressed opposition to the government’s plan to integrate them with the Turkana host community. Another refugee argued that the government cannot forcibly integrate them, emphasising that they have their nationalities.

He stated angrily that if the government cannot meet their demands, it should facilitate their return to their home countries.

“If you are tired of us take us back to our country. We cannot accept to die of hunger. We better go and die from bullets, that is accepted as it is what caused us to be here. The issue of water is not very big, we can survive. But the issue is food,” he told Nation.

He further stated that they are not demanding education or medical care, only food to sustain themselves.
