I allowed Mama Ngina Kenyatta to shave my dreadlocks, nobody forced me; Field Marshall Muthoni

Field Marshall Muthoni has revealed that she allowed Mama Ngina Kenyatta to shave her dreadlocks to bless President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Muthoni Wa Kirima shaved her dreadlocks after having them for over 70 years, as a testimony to the fight for independence.

Muthoni cut her dreadlocks on Saturday, April 2; an event graced by the former first lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta.

Field Marshall Muthoni dismissed reports alleging that Mama Ngina compelled her to shave her six-foot-long dreadlocks.

Muthoni said that she resorted to shaving her hair to signify that Kenya had finally gained full independence.

“I had to cut it because it has been a long journey. I started keeping this hair in 1952 and after more than 70 years, I needed to get rid of them. I now feel like a young girl,” Muthoni stated.

“Nobody can shave my hair without my consent. If they attempted to do so, I would have given them a proper beating,” she added.

Mama Ngina Kenyatta led a unique ceremony in Nyeri Town to shave the dreadlocks of the only female Field Marshal.

The dreadlocks have been on the Mau Mau combatant for almost 70 years.

The majority of Mau Mau fighters pledged not to shave until the whites leave Kenya.

The veteran’s wish was to have Mama Ngina cut her dreadlocks and to bless President Uhuru Kenyatta.
