IEBC returning officer reported missing
IEBC returning officer reported missing as the verification of Tuesday’s presidential election results is ongoing.
The Returning Officer for Embakasi East for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has gone missing as announced by the commission’s chair on Friday night.
Daniel Musyoka went missing on Thursday, August 11, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
Chebukati also said that his phone was off, and the Commission was unable to reach him.
“The returning officer has been reported missing from the Embakasi tallying center. Reports received by the Commission indicated that at around 9 am, on 11, August, he was escorted to the tallying center by his bodyguard.
“At around 9:45 am he excused himself to make a phone call but did not return to the office,” Chebukati stated.
The IEBC chair revealeed that the commission had already filed a missing person report at the Embakasi police station and has called on the investigative agencies to move with speed and ensure his whereabouts are known.
“The Commission is deeply concerned about this unfortunate incident and calls upon the relevant security agencies to investigate this matter,” he stated.
Further, Chebukati announced that the IEBC returning officer duties were being handled by the Deputy Returning Officer as they wait for the police to complete their investigations.
