IG Koome bans the planned countrywide protests by the Azimio la Umoja Coalition daring to arrest anyone regardless of status

IG Koome bans the planned countrywide protests by the Azimio la Umoja Coalition daring to arrest anyone regardless of status.

On Sunday, March 26, Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome promised Kenyans that the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) will be secured before the anticipated large-scale protest.

Speaking to the media on Sunday in Nairobi, IG Koome declared that no one will be permitted to hold protests the following week.

Koome urged Kenyans to go to work as usual and carry out their daily responsibilities while promising to deploy more security personnel.

“People are allowed to come to the city. However, if you have plans to bring violence and if you are armed with offensive weapons such as machetes, stones, and clubs, you will face the music.”Regardless of your status, I will throw you into a Land Cruiser. I will not arrest anyone in Prados and you will be taken into police custody,” Koome explained.

The IG defended the National Police Service from accusations that they had selected to side with the government in the wake of the mass demonstrations.

” I do not even know what the server is. Why do they want to bring down the country because of a phenomenon that the common citizen does not even comprehend?

“Those are political issues that need political solutions. But when it comes to matters of security, I have a mandate as the IG to ensure the protection of property and life and I will not sleep on that job,” Koome affirmed.

Following their threats to bring a case against Nairobi Regional Commander Adamson Bungei before the International Criminal Court, the Police Chief called Azimio out for bullying junior officers.

He also criticized the opposition for publicly naming and shaming a Maseno police officer who was allegedly responsible for shooting and killing a university student during the protests.

“They have put a constable all over social media, why don’t you target the IG? Face me, I will deal with you!” The IG barked.

The Raila-led coalition will be holding its dawn-to-dusk protests in Nairobi and other parts of the country on Monday, March 27, at a time when President William Ruto will be in Berlin.

Ruto has insisted that anyone who will attempt to disrupt business will be dealt with accordingly.

However, Opposition leader Raila Odinga has maintained that next week’s demos will be held within the law.

He said that the Azimio La Umoja coalition respects the law and will remain peaceful.
