Ruto pleads with Raila not to resume weekly protests adding that he’ll call him “my brother” ten times if it will help end demonstrations.

President William Ruto has once again appealed to his political nemesis Azimio leader Raila Odinga not to recall weekly protests.

Speaking during the Iftar dinner at the State House on Monday, April 17, Ruto asked Raila to call off the planned resumption of anti-government protests.

“Kama rais niliuliza my brother Raila Odinga kwamba tuwache maandamano. Tuwache fujo inaharibu mali ya watu, biashara ya watu, damu inamwagika,” Ruto said.

Ruto was responding to Raila, who had pointed out that for the first time, Ruto did not call him ‘Mtu ya kitendawili’ but referred to him as ‘my brother’.

In his address to the gathering Ruto said he would call Raila his brother 10 times if it guaranteed an end to demonstrations, adding that he would even add ‘my dear’ as a method of endearment.

“Nimeona tena wanalalmika mbona Ruto ameita Raila my brother angemwita mtu wa kitendawili. Wacha nirudie tena my brother Raila Odinga tuwache maandamano. Kama kumwita Raila Odinga my brother ndio ita saidia awache maandamano mimi nitamwita mara kumi hata nitaongeza my dear brother,” Ruto added.

In addition, Ruto stated that the time was ripe for the government to close ranks with the opposition.

He emphasized that Kenya is one and should have only one government to deliver to its citizens.

“It’s time for us to close ranks, to work together for the good of our country,” Ruto said.

“There is no country for the government only and another one for the opposition. The government I’m leading is for all Kenyans,” he added.
