Julius Kamau, a man who allegedly disrupted Treasury CS Njunguna Ndung’u’s photo shoot ahead of budget reading disrupts the court session.

During the court session, Julius Kamau Kimani unexpectedly went off script, disregarding his lawyer’s instructions to adhere to court protocols by speaking only when appropriate.

He subsequently launched into a tirade, venting his frustrations over what he described as the government’s neglect of the ordinary Kenyan through the introduction of numerous taxes.

He said that even if he is jailed for 100 years, he will never keep quiet.

“It is true and as I said I don’t want to retrieve my concerns. I’m ready to do anything to see change in this country. I’m ready to die for justice, I’m ready to die for equality; we cannot continue living like slaves in our own country in the land of our fathers,” he said.

He continued shouting prompting his lawyer and the magistrate to calm him down.

“Kenyans are oppressed by the government and all of them are fools. We are facing a high cost of living and yet we were colonised. Colonisation never really ended,” he said.

The judge subsequently warned Kimani that he would be held in contempt of court but fearless, Kimani soldiered on.

“I don’t know whether you are going to sentence me; I’m ready to be sentenced for 100 years but I’ll keep speaking the truth until I leave this world. We cannot continue living like this; we must resist!” he said.

His lawyer said his client was mentally okay as he knew what he was talking about.

He urged the court to allow him to plead to the charges or grant him bail.

Milimani senior principal magistrate Benard Ochoi declined and ordered that he be taken to Mathari Mental Hospital for mental assessment.

“Having noted the behaviour of the accused, I direct that the plea against him be deferred until Tuesday next week. He will be taken for mental assessment and a report tabled in court,” the magistrate ruled.

Kamau together with Erick Mankuyu Seyielel were charged with creating disturbance in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.

“On 13th day of June 2024 at Treasury Building along Harambee Avenue in Nairobi CBD within Nairobi County jointly with others not before court created disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by yelling, shouting and attempting to disrupt the photo shooting session by the Cabinet Secretary National Treasury and Economic Planning and his delegates,” read the charge sheet.
