Inside Kalonzo trip to UK after missing Kamukunji Rally

Kalonzo meets the Anglican Church Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby in London on his trip to United Kingdom (UK).

In response to growing speculation on his whereabouts after skipping the Azimio rally held at Kamukunji grounds on Tuesday, June 28, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Thursday, June 29, revealed that he was in the United Kingdom on a trip.

According to a statement by Kalonzo, he met with representatives of the Anglican Church in London, led by Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The discussion, according to the former vice president, was focused on the ongoing turmoil in Sudan.

He expressed his own reflection on the current violence and cited Mathew 5:9, a bible text addressing a beatitude on peacemakers.

“We spent time discussing a number of matters of international importance particularly on African affairs including the South Sudan conflict together with the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Special Representative on the conflict in Sub-Saharan Africa, Bishop Precious Okomu.

“It is our collective prayer that everlasting peace will prevail in our region,” he stated.

Among those present at the meeting was Sammy Wainaina, the former Provost of All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi.

During the London trip, Kalonzo was also accompanied by his son, Kennedy Musyoka, who is also an East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) lawmaker.

Kalonzo trip to UK comes after he was missing from the Kamukunji rally where former Prime Minister Raila Odinga announced new measures against President William Ruto.

During the event, Kalonzo’s absence was acknowledged, with allies indicating that he was not available.

However, Wiper Party members expressed support for the directive issued by Raila.

Some of the measures announced by Azimio included boycotting taxes, civil disobedience and carpooling as a means to protest against the Finance Act of 2023 which introduced a raft of unpopular taxes.
