Hussein Mohamed outlines President William Ruto’s agenda in his tour of the Nyanza region, Raila’s backyard.

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on January 12, outlined an overview of President William Ruto’s two-day visit to the Nyanza region.

Hussein announced that the President will be in charge of overseeing the groundbreaking and launch of many projects that are expected to transform the counties of Kisumu, Siaya, and Homa Bay in a statement delivered to the press at State lodge Kisumu.

The President is scheduled to preside over the opening of the first phase of the 5,000 affordable housing initiative in Homa Bay County on Friday, January 13.

The project would include the township towns of Oyugis, Kendu Bay, and Mbita, according to the State House Spokesperson.

Hussein pointed out that the housing projects will not only meet the region’s need for more housing units but will also give residents job opportunities.

He emphasized that Homa Bay was the first to sign a memorandum of understanding with the national government and that it had achieved significant progress in implementing Kenya’s housing plan.

“This will boost the local economy and put money in the pockets of hustlers in Homa Bay. Jua Kali enterprises will expand and create jobs and wealth for the three million people in the sub-sector,” read a statement from the State House.

In addition, Ruto is expected to launch several other projects including Homa Bay Municipal Market which is designed to provide space for trade in agricultural products.

The president will also attend the commissioning of the Blue Economy Research Hub at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), which will take place in Siaya County.

It will be Ruto’s second trip since becoming Kenya’s fifth president in September, and it will last two days. Ruto visited Homa Bay county in October 2022 and made a commitment to build affordable housing there.

His visit, however, provoked conflicting interpretations, with some opposition leaders charging that he was trying to infiltrate Raila Odinga’s political base.

President Ruto will grace a homecoming ceremony of Owalo in Siaya County.
