Inspector General of police Hilary Mutyambai proceeds on long leave amid claims he had collapsed
Inspector General of police Hilary Mutyambai proceeds on long leave amid claims he had collapsed while at his Karen Home.
After being ill and being admitted to the hospital, Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai designated his deputy Noor Gabow to take over as the police chief.
From August 26, according to Mutyambai, he would be out of the office undergoing a physical assessment.
“This is to inform the general public that I will be away from the office attending to a medical checkup effective today, 26th August 2022.”
“In my absence, Noor Gabow, the Deputy Inspector General – Administration Police Service, will act as the Inspector General of the National Police Service until my return,” he said in a statement.
This came in the midst of rumours that Mutyambai had been taken to the hospital on Thursday after collapsing at his house in Nairobi.
The officer complained of breathing problems and passed out while in his Karen home.
His escort crew was getting ready for Friday’s work when they earlier dropped him off at home.
His wife and coworkers alerted the sentry, and they all helped get him to an elite private hospital for treatment.
He was reportedly admitted to the high dependency section of the Aga Khan hospital (HDU).
A specialized ward called the HDU offers critically ill patients intense care (therapy and monitoring).
The senior police officer’s family and acquaintances said that the patient was responding well to treatment.
It is not clear what caused the incident.
It is not the first time he collapsed and was rushed to the same hospital.
He is 2020 collapsed again in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and was admitted there.
Those close to him said he has a history of blood pressure which he is however managing well.
