The court finally delivered the verdict regarding the murdered businesswoman Monica Kimani pitting former Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe and Jowie Irungu.
Joseph Irungu alias Jowie has been found guilty of the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani in September 2018.
While delivering the judgment at the Milimani Law Courts on Friday, February 9, the judge concluded that Jowie murdered Monica Kimani.
“Having considered the evidence in this matter it is the finding of this court that the prosecution has adduced adequate evidence and has met the threshold…. It is the finding of this court that the first accused person murdered the deceased,” ruled Justice Grace Nzioka.
Additionally, the court noted that the first accused person was the last person seen at the deceased house on the material day.
Before arriving at the final decision, Justice Nzioka raised six questions: whether Jowie Irungu knew Monica prior to her death, whether he stole and used the stolen I.D to access where the deceased was staying, whether the clothes he was wearing implicate him in the commission of the offence, whether he was in the deceased house and whether he was the last person to be seen with the deceased, whether he had a gun and whether he was positively identified on the identification parade.

Meanwhile, former TV news anchor Jacque Maribe, who was charged alongside Irungu, has been acquitted of the murder charge.
On Maribe, Justice Nzioka ruled: “It is my considered view that the charge brought against the second accused person (Jacque Maribe) was not the proper charge.”
Following the verdict, Justice Nzioka canceled Jowie’s bond noting that he will be held in custody till March 8, 2024, when sentencing will be done.
Monica was discovered dead in her apartment in Kilimani, Nairobi in 2018 leading to the subsequent arrest and charging of Maribe and Irungu.
