EACC detectives arrest Judiciary official at Makadara Law Court for soliciting 400K bribe to fast-track services.

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested a court assistant at the Traffic Registry on charges of soliciting bribes at the Nairobi Makadara Law Courts.

The EACC said in a statement posted on its social media accounts that the court official, was taken into custody on Friday following receipt of a Ksh50,000 down payment.

It was said that the Judiciary official was awaiting payment of Ksh350,000 when the detectives zeroed in on him.

The suspect allegedly sought Ksh400,000 from the complainant in order to expedite services that he should have provided at no cost, according to detectives.

“EACC has arrested AMH who demanded Ksh400,000 from the complainant with the intent that, in consequence, he would expedite the printing and issuance of court proceedings in respect to the complainant’s court file,” EACC stated on Saturday.

Detectives detained the suspect at the EACC Police Station for processing and grilling as investigations commenced into the case.

EACC did not divulge how it tracked the suspect, or whether he was under its radar since the government lamented rampant corruption inside the Judiciary.

This comes after President William Ruto and his allies accused the Judiciary of hosting corrupt judges and officials who were accustomed to receiving bribes to offer service delivery.
