MP Junet Mohmed dismisses reports of eying to replace Kithure Kindiki as Interior CS.

Minority Leader in the National Assembly Junet Mohamed has dismissed allegations of plotting to replace Kithure Kindiki as the Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary.

In a statement dated Saturday, October 26, the Suna East lawmaker emphasised that he was satisfied with his current position as the Minority Leader and was not eying any position within President William Ruto’s Cabinet.

The MP, while terming the allegations as unfounded innuendoes, noted that he was currently concentrating on his recent appointment as the leader of the minority party in Parliament adding that the position was similarly a significant constitutional office.

He added that despite having the ambition to serve Kenyans in any capacity, he was neither one of the people angling for the government job nor did the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party front his name for the preferred position.

“In this context, I have been made aware of unfounded innuendoes to the effect that I have shown interest in the position of Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration and, or, that the ODM Party has submitted my name for consideration in such a role,” Junet clarified.

“In any case, I have just recently assumed the leadership of the Minority Party in the National Assembly which is an equally very important constitutional office in our governance architecture,” he added.

Junet’s statement comes hardly two days after Majority Leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah also dismissed reports of seeking to replace Kithure Kindiki as the Interior CS. Speaking in Kilifi County on Wednesday, October 23, Ichung’wah stated that he had yet to accomplish the purpose for which he was elected, and such claims of eyeing the prestigious Cabinet position were only meant to create confusion among Kenyans.

“I have heard there are many things that have been said here, one of the politicians has suggested that I should become the Interior CS. But I want to say that I have a job and I don’t want people to get confused,” Ichung’wah stated.

“I do not need the job of a minister, I have a job that I was given by Kikuyu constituents and these MPs also gave me a task in the National Assembly, I want to continue with this job so that we can bring development in Rabai and other parts of the country,” he added.

Ichung’wah further commended MPs for impeaching former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. According to Ichung’wah, Gachagua was not impeached due to hate by the lawmakers but rather because of his character.

He stated that the decision to lead the impeachment motion of the former deputy president was not done in his favour for a new role in President Ruto’s administration rather it was done for the betterment of the country.

“You saw I led the impeachment motion in the National Assembly, I want to commend all the MPs, we did not do that because we hate an individual, we did it because we love the people of Kenya,” Ichung’wah stated.
