Kalonzo Musyoka faults former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i for seeking peace talks with Ruto after tribulation with DCI.

The opposition Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has leveled harsh criticism against former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka accused Fred Matiang’i of pursuing a truce with the Kenya Kwanza government of President William Ruto by

“The other day Eugene Wamalwa escorted Matiang’i to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters. But I even don’t understand why he (Matiang’i) went to talk to these people,” Kalonzo said.

Speaking during the 15th People’s Baraza rally at Mtwapa in Kilifi county on Monday, March 13, 2023, Kalonzo observed that there was nowhere under the law where Matiang’i committed any crime.

“The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was just directed to state that there was no evidence against Matiang’i. But I insist that there was no evidence in the first place. So, Matiang’i should have stood with Raila the way he did for him,” Kalonzo added.

Kalonzo’s statement comes after reports of reconciliation between former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and William Ruto ahead of the president’s planned visit to Kisii.

Matiang’i reportedly held a meeting with Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu and other political leaders, community elders, and church leaders in the Gusii region to promote reconciliation and unity.

The Machogu-led meeting is seen as the first step towards reconciling and uniting the Gusii community, which has been divided over the recent events involving Matiang’i.

The meeting brought together former and current lawmakers from Gusii, community elders, and church leaders, all geared toward promoting reconciliation and the region’s unity.

With Ruto expected to attend Machogu’s homecoming ceremony on March 24, the reconciliation efforts could culminate in a handshake between Ruto and Matiang’i, a move that could signal an end to the political tension in the region.
