Kalonzo speaks on Ruto, Uhuru meeting
Kalonzo Musyoka now says President William Ruto meeting Uhuru Kenyatta is a survival tactic.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka now says that the meeting between President William Ruto and his predecessor was not about forming an inclusive government.
According to Kalonzo, the move by Ruto is that of someone seeking political survival.
He went on to say that the President went on to hastily appoint allies of the former President after their meeting the same way he did with allies of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
“I want Kenyans to believe this is not broad-based. This is someone trying to survive politically by having a photo op with Uhuru Kenyatta and after that appoint people very quickly, as happened with ODM,” Kalonzo said on KTN.
He, however, noted that despite the appointments, nothing changes.
Kalonzo insisted that a revolution is ongoing and it will only end with the 2027 general elections.
He added that this is the very reason there needs to be an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in place.
“For me, nothing has changed; the revolution is ongoing, and the culmination will be the next elections and therefore the need to have IEBC in place,” Kalonzo said.
“Lack of IEBC Commissioner has stalled operations at the electoral body. While there is a secretariat in place, by-elections cannot be held unless the Commission is in place.”

Kalonzo’s remarks come a few weeks after Ruto and Uhuru met in the former President’s Ichaweri home in Gatundu.
The meeting came as a surprise to many Kenyans who had not anticipated it.
State House said the two leaders discussed matters of national and regional importance and underscored the importance of cultivating a nationalistic, patriotic, and harmonious working relationship among all Kenyans and stakeholders.
A few days after the meeting, President Ruto appointed some of Uhuru’s key allies into his Cabinet while others joined key state organs.
Those nominated to cabinet are Mutahi Kagwe (Agriculture and Livestock Development), William Kabogo (Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy), and Lee Kinyanjui (Investments, Trade, and Industry).
They will be vetted on January 14, 2025.
