Kalonzo will join Ruto soon; Senator Cherargei claims

Senator Samson Cherargei has claimed that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is likely to form a political alliance with President William Ruto
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has claimed that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is likely to form a political alliance with President William Ruto in the coming months.
In a post shared on his X handle, the senator took a swipe at Kalonzo’s National Delegates Conference (NDC) that took place on Friday, October 10, describing it as lacking the energy of a national political event.
“…Mark you, in a couple of months, the former vice president shall be in a working political relationship with President Ruto. That’s where his future lies…,” Cherargei wrote.
Kalonzo, who is increasingly emerging as a frontrunner for the joint opposition ticket ahead of the 2027 General Election, is positioning himself as the face of a united anti-government coalition.
Kalonzo and his camp have in the past said they have no intention to join Ruto’s government.
Cherargei’s remarks now add fresh weight to that narrative. The senator spoke in the wake of a significant political realignment that saw Kanu chairman Gideon Moi—once a fierce critic of Ruto—abandon his planned comeback through the Baringo Senate by-election and instead throw his weight behind the President.
Moi’s move, after more than two years on the periphery of active politics, has been widely interpreted as a signal of a shifting balance of power within the political elite.

Cherargei’s statement came barely a day after Kalonzo’s Wiper party convened a National Delegates Conference at the SKM Command Centre, where the former Vice President reaffirmed his commitment to challenging Ruto in 2027.
In his address, Kalonzo rallied Kenya’s youthful voters—particularly the Gen Z demographic credited with powering last year’s anti-government protests—to register in large numbers and “shoot Ruto at the ballot.”
“Young Kenyans, I urge you today to shoot Ruto at the ballot. If you have not yet, I implore you to register to vote,” he said.
On Saturday, Kalonzo took his message to Embu county, where he led a series of voter mobilisation rallies across Makutano Junction, Kiritiri in Mbeere and Runyenjes.
His call was consistent: that Kenyans, especially the youth, must seize the moment to redefine the country’s political future.
“The time for lamentations is over, the time for excuses is gone, the moment for change is now. This movement is about you, your children and the future of this nation,” he told supporters.
Political commentator Pauline Njoroge, on Saturday, dismissed the notion of Kalonzo shifting allegiance to Ruto, terming such speculation as “wishful thinking.”
She argued that Kalonzo was currently best placed to mount a credible presidential challenge from the opposition.
“Oh, very soon you’ll see Kalonzo being taken maraoundi State House,” she wrote on X.
“Let’s be serious. Why would Kalonzo abandon the united opposition when he now stands his best chance at the presidency?”
