Martha Karua denies reports of meeting between representatives of Ruto and Raila terming them as a mere propaganda.

President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga have been said to be working on a secret agreement, but Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua on Tuesday, July 18, disputed the reports.

According to a report in the Daily Nation, Professor Makau Mutua and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed were representing Raila in the negotiations.

The identity of Ruto’s representative was not known. However, it was reported that the individual was a high-security official.

According to the article, Karua  opposed the deal urging her colleagues in the Azimio coalition against taking up the deal.

The Narc Kenya leader termed the reports as propaganda, distancing herself from the quote.

“It is unprofessional for your paper Daily Nation to publish gossip and propaganda by your reporter purport to quote me without seeking any confirmation or comment from me,” she stated.

“As part of Azimio’s top leadership, I am not aware of any such negotiations by Makau Mutua or Junet Mohamed.”

Karua reiterated that the talks between her leader and Ruto were only being held through the Bipartisan committee which collapsed before her coalition began demonstrations.

She consequently disclosed that she would issue a demand letter on the media outlet over the matter.

According to the Daily Nation, the story was based on sources from the Kenya Kwanza faction who detailed that the government was seeking to have a peaceful resolution with Raila who intends to intensify protests from Wednesday, July 19.

It was reported that the three representatives were tasked with getting a deal struck by September 1.

“Yes, we have reached out to Azimio. The country is facing a myriad of challenges that are beyond our reach We are talking to their representatives,” the Kenya Kwanza representative was quoted.
