Kasmuel McOure issues warning over Raila Odinga’s political succession
Kasmuel McOure has issued a warning to individuals eyeing the political space left vacant by the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, cautioning them against attempts to inherit his leadership position.
Speaking on Saturday, October 18, McOure insisted that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) now falls under the stewardship of Senator Oburu Odinga, Raila’s elder brother.
“I am sending a stern warning to those bringing antics in the name of inheriting Raila’s position. You cannot inherit Raila’s position. ODM is now firmly under the leadership of Senator Oburu Odinga,” he said.
McOure further noted that the ODM party remains strong and should continue under Oburu’s leadership for the foreseeable future.
“The ODM party will be around for the next 20 years, but now it has to be under the firm leadership of Senator Oburu Odinga. They had better convene that national delegates conference and install him. He has the best ideals for the party. He has kept us together,” he added.
This comes two days after the ODM Party announced the appointment of Oburu as the Acting Party Leader following Raila’s death.

In a statement on Thursday, October 16, the party confirmed that the decision was made during a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC), which unanimously agreed to have Oburu take up the leadership role in an acting capacity.
“The National Executive Committee (NEC) has this morning met and unanimously endorsed the designation of the Senator of Siaya County Dr. Oburu Oginga as the Acting Party Leader. This appointment takes effect immediately,” ODM said in its statement.
Meanwhile, Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi declared that the ODM Party will remain in government until 2027 and beyond.
Speaking on Friday, October 17, Wandayi affirmed that the late ODM leader Raila Odinga entrusted them to continue working within the government led by President William Ruto.
“Baba has left us in government led by President Ruto and that is where we are going to stay till the end. I can dare say with no fear of contradiction that we shall walk step by step with President Ruto to the end, now and beyond 2027,” he said.
However, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi took issue with Wandayi’s statement, urging him to focus on mourning Raila instead of making political declarations.
“It is not proper for some ODM leaders to come to Baba’s funeral crying that Raila Odinga left Nyanza people in the government. Let us mourn first, then tell us where he left you.
“And if indeed he left you in the government, why should you shout at the top of your voices? I thought when Baba says left, it’s left; right, it’s right. It should flow smoothly,” he said.
