Kenya in a new labour deal with Saudi Arabia to hire nurses on behalf of the latter according to labour CS Florence Bore.

On Tuesday, July 11, Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore of the Ministry of Labour said that as part of a new labor agreement, nurses will be hired and sent to Saudi Arabia.

The CS announced in a statement that the government and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have reached an agreement to improve secure, regular, and fruitful labor movement between the two nations.

“The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection requests for expression of interest from qualified Kenyans for employment in Saudi Arabia as Nursing and Midwifery professionals,” read part of the statement.

The nurses will receive a monthly salary of Saudi Riyal 4700, or Kshs180,500 at the current currency rate.

Additional benefits will include round-trip airfare, 35 days of paid vacation, food, housing, insurance, and transportation.

Additionally, in compliance with Saudi Arabian labor laws, nurses are entitled to overtime pay.

The Saudi government will also provide transportation, uniforms, and overtime pay, according to the Ministry of Health. A 48-hour workweek will be required of the nurses.

Successful applicants will be handed a one-year renewable contract.

Some of the requirements for the nurses include being a Kenyan citizen, holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Sciences or Midwifery, being a registered and licensed member of the Nursing Council of Kenya, and being in possession of a valid Police Clearance certificate.

Other qualifications include a minimum of two years of nursing or midwifery experience in a hospital setting, or relevant post-registration experience, accompanied by a current work experience letter. Applicants are also required to have no more than three months of out-of-practice periods. 

Candidates are also required to be proficient in english, to be in good physical heath and possess a valid Kenyan passport.

Notably, the candidates can register as jobseekers through the National Employment Authority (NEA) on neaims.go.ke.
