Kenya Kwanza unveils its list of five members for Ruto-Raila talks in a bid to resolve the political impasse.

Ruto’s coalition, Kenya Kwanza has unveiled its five members who will represent it in the proposed fresh talks with the Opposition side.

The delegation includes National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Leader of Majority of the Senate, Aaron Cheruiyot, Governor Cecily Mbarire, Hassan Omar, and Catherine Wambilianga.

Kenya Kwanza in a statement on Wednesday emphasized that the team will engage with the Azimio counterparts on five issues.

They include reconstitution of IEBC; implementation of two-thirds gender rule, entrenchment of constituency development fund, establishment and entrenchment of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, and embedment of the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.

The coalition further asked the Azimio side to abide by the five issues agreed at the meeting.

“For the avoidance of doubt, brutality shall no longer and shall never be part of our nation’s political discourse. As agreed, there shall be no discussion of whatever nature on matters handshake or ‘nusu mkate,” Ichung’wah’s statement read in part.

In addition, Kenya Kwanza faulted the Azimio team for disregarding Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo’s request not to be mentioned in any public statement – claiming the lack of decency in the opposition not respecting the appeal.

Azimio, in their past press conferences, had claimed that Kenya Kwanza was opposed to Obasanjo leading the talks, a few days after rejecting the same offer made by Tanzania President Mama Samia Suluhu and her South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa.

The Kenya Kwanza team will join the Azimio side led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka with Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, Eugene Wamalwa, Okong’o Omogeni, and Malindi MP Amina Mnyanzi.
