Vihiga family in despair after kin’s mysterious death, hurried cremation in Mozambique.

A family in Ebusiralo, Vihiga County, is in agony following the death of their kin in Maputo, Mozambique, under unclear circumstances.

According to family members, Robert Moses Magotsi was a Mechanical Engineer in Cape Town until his untimely death on October 11, 2025.

Family members say that they received the sad news from Robert’s South Africa business partner, and also a lady who was living with the deceased in Maputo, identified as Wanjiku. The reports indicated that he collapsed after a morning run and was later pronounced dead after he was rushed to a nearby Hospital.

As the family was making arrangements to repatriate his body to Nairobi, for burial arrangements at his home in Kitale, they received reports from Wanjiku informing them that she had cremated the body and the ashes thrown in the Pacific Ocean.

They allege that she hurriedly sold some of the engineer’s properties and even forged the life insurance policy worth Ksh.50 million, allegedly naming herself as the beneficiary.

They said even after reporting the incident at the CID in Maputo, Mozambique, no arrests have been made so far.

They are now appealing to the government of Kenya to liaise with the Mozambique Republic to probe the circumstances that led to his death and the body being hurriedly cremated without the family’s knowledge.

At the time of his demise, Robert Magotsi was working as the planning manager of Cape Town City. He also owned 51% shares of a solar plant in Limpopo.
