Kenya opens a National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) test centre in Nairobi that will grant nurses direct access to Jobs in the U.S, Canada, and Australia.

The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) is a nationwide examination for licensing nurses in the United States, Canada, and Australia.

This is the second test centre in Africa for certifying and licensing nursing professionals.

Nursing boards in these countries require registered nurses to pass the NCLEX-RN tests before they can practice.

The announcement was made by Prime CS, Musalia Mudavadi, in an event attended by the CS for health, Nakhumicha S. Wafula, who presided over the launch of the Pearson Virtual University Enterprises (VUE) Test Centre in Nairobi.

“Kenyan nurses can now obtain international certification locally, eliminating the need to travel to India or South Africa for exams, addressing the rising demand for nursing skills globally,” said Mudavadi in a statement on X.

In a public statement, the Ministry of Health termed the fully-equipped centre a game-changer for Kenyan nurses because it will slash exam costs by 50%.

“The establishment of the NCLEX Centre in Nairobi foresees transformative benefits, eliminating the need for nurses to travel to India or South Africa.

This initiative grants Kenyan nurses direct access to lucrative opportunities in the U.S., Canada, and Australia, contributing not only to individual career growth but also to national economic development,” wrote the Ministry of Health.
