Kenya’s Electoral Commission IEBC begins 2027 polls preparations

The IEBC is currently conducting an evaluation of the August 9 general election in preparation for the 2027 polls.
The Post Election Evaluation (PEE) exercise seeks input from stakeholders and development partners on how to improve the electoral process.
According to the Commission, the findings and recommendations will be incorporated into the strategic plan that will guide the elections operation plan for 2022-27.
“The forum seeks to document experiences and evaluate lessons learnt from the 2022 general election,” the Commission said.
“With purpose areas for improvement to inform future policy direction and strategic planning alongside identifying key priority areas for funding.”
Deputy Chief Executive Officer Obadia Keitany expressed gratitude for the support in ensuring they deliver on the mandate during a meeting with a group of development partners on Tuesday.
“I request the partners to be candid and bold to suggest recommendations that will be used to guide our formulation of strategic plan and policy direction,” he said.
Chairman Wafula Chebukati’s representative, Commissioner Abdi Guliye, stated that it was time to relive individual and collective experiences from August 9.
Guliye insisted on having an assessment of the electoral cycle activities in retrospect.
“The Post Election Evaluation is not only an international best practice but is anchored in the Constitution as the core mandate of IEBC…,” Guliye said.
“Article 88 (4)(h) obligates the Commission to facilitate observation, monitoring and evaluation of elections,” he continued.
Guliye stated that preparations for the 2022 election began after 2017.
