Deputy President nominee Kithure Kindiki has received President William Ruto at the Kwale County Commissioner’s office ahead of the 60th Mashujaa Day celebrations.

Deputy President-elect Kithure Kindiki received President William Ruto in Kwale as he got off a Kenya Airforce chopper with First Lady Rachel Ruto on Sunday morning.

Kindiki was also flanked by Trade Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Olollo and Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani.

Kindiki received the Head of State at the Kwale County Commissioner’s residence.

Kindiki was joined by other leaders including Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and Governor Fatuma Achani among other leaders.

Kindiki was nominated to be the Deputy President of Kenya after the Senate impeached Rigathi Gachagua.

Senators who voted against Gachagua in the impeachment motion

Senators voted in favour of five out of the 11 grounds presented as grounds for his removal on October 17, 2024.

Impeached DP Gachagua has been admitted to the Karen Hospital in Nairobi since Thursday, October 17, and is still recuperating.

Doctors had initially informed the press that the DP would be admitted for 48 to 72 hours as they monitored his progress.

A court order, however, suspended the Senate impeachment, throwing a spanner in the works for Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to assume the DP’s office.

Gachagua has also taken to X joining Kenyans in commemorating the celebrations.

“Happy Mashujaa Day dear Kenyans. God Bless our Nation,” he wrote on Sunday.
