Azimio leaders organising anti-government protests will have their security detail withdrawan according to Interior CS Kithure Kindiki.

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki has issued a warning that any leader found responsible for planning or inciting protests will have their security detail withdrawn.

CS Kindiki claims that the increasingly unseemly anti-government demonstrations will not be tolerated, labeling them as illegal and “terrorism”-related crimes.

Speaking while opening a police station in Kiserian on Thursday, Kindiki stated that the government will not show any mercy to leaders who are found to be breaking the law.

“Hao magaidi wa kisiasa tunawaweka katika kundi moja la ugaidi. That was nothing short of terrorism,” he said.

“Even government leaders must follow the law; if you break the law, whether you are in the opposition or the government, we will deal with you,” he added.

“If you are a leader and organizing protests, we will prosecute you and we won’t give you armed security,” the statement reads.

The interior CS also criticized individuals who blamed security forces for the mayhem in anti-government demonstrations, arguing that the protesters should instead be held responsible.

He urged police officers to not hesitate whenever they encounter the “criminals” during protests.

“Wanasema wenye kusahabisha hii shida ni polisi. Watu wakiibia watu sio polisi. Don’t joke with criminals. Deal with them firmly,” he said.

” But you must also respect peaceful protesters.”

His statement comes even as Azimio coalition remains defiant that they will not relent in the fight against the government, calling on William Ruto meet their demands lest they’ll continue protesting.
