State House Press Secretary takes on Larry Madowo after the latter questioned President William Ruto for double speak.

CNN journalist Larry Madowo has rattled Press Secretary of the Presidential Communication Service (PCS) Emmanuel Talam after accusing President William Ruto of doublespeak.

Madowo exposed President Ruto wondering why he attended a summit in Italy while he had ruled out attending meetings summoned by one country.

The CNN journalist went ahead to share Ruto’s clip in April 2023 when he opposed such meetings insisting that only the African Union should represent African Presidents.

“President William Ruto said he and other African leaders would not be summoned by one country. The African Union would represent them going forward. He’s standing just steps away from both the AU chair and the AU Commission chair in Italy while other East African presidents skipped,” Madowo stated.

However, Madowo sentiments rattled Press Secretary of the Presidential Communication Service at State House, Emmanuel Talam making them clash online.

Emmanuel Talam lashed out at Madowo accusing him of failing to read Ruto’s speech at the summit.

“Create time to read the President’s speech. Basic journalism,” Talam hit out at Madowo.

However, Madowo in a quick rebuttal told off Talam insisting that he was fit enough to lecture him on journalism tenets.

“You don’t have the range to lecture me about journalism,” Madowo responded.

Following the heated debate online, Ruto was compelled to explain his change of mind while addressing other Presidents at the summit.

Ruto noted that Italy’s government employed a pragmatic approach which led to his change of tune against attending meetings summoned by one country.

“Let me begin by appreciating President Sergio Matterella, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and the Government of Italy for convening this Summit. I have previously noted that an invitation extended by one country to all 54 African nations did not necessarily serve Africa’s best interests,” Ruto stated.

“But those of us present at this conference, representing our colleagues, find it different and inspiring due to the pragmatic approach you, have taken, Madam Prime Minister,” he justified his attendance.

In April 2023, Ruto stated, “We have made the decision that it is not intelligent for 54 of us (African Presidents) to go and sit before one gentleman from another place. Sometimes we are mistreated, we are loaded into buses like school children and it is not right.”
