Man hacks his two children to death while in sleep before killing self

A middle-aged man on Sunday night killed his two children in their sleep at their home in Katuliki village, Makueni County, before dying by suicide

A middle-aged man on Sunday night killed his two children in their sleep at their home in Katuliki village, Makueni County, before dying by suicide.

Area Chief Antony Muia has confirmed the incident. The man, now deceased, said to be the biological father of the two children, has been identified as Muumbi Makato.

According to Chief Muia, the deceased had been living alone with the two children aged 10 and 15 years, after separating with his wife.

“The man attacked his own children as they were sleeping, hacking them to death with a machete,” said Chief Muia.

The police recovered a bloodied machete at the scene.

“The man kept to himself most of the time, and hardly interacted with other residents, making it difficult to determine what may have gone wrong,” said Chief Muia.

The three bodies were moved to the Kilome Nursing Home by police.
