Manchester United unimpressed with Cristiano Ronaldo after footage emerges of him snubbing Ten Hag team-talk and leaving the stadium early
After departing Old Trafford before the end of Sunday’s friendly match against Rayo Vallecano, Christiano Ronaldo has come under fire for allegedly setting a bad example.
Erik ten Hag has been demanding togetherness in his Manchester United squad ahead of the new season.
But Ronaldo was replaced at halftime following a tiff with the new manager on the sidelines.
Then rather than return to the dugout, he left the stadium ten minutes before the final whistle.
Diogo Dalot, who wasn’t part of the matchday squad, also left early after watching the 1-1 draw from the stands.
Manchester United unimpressed
Meanwhile, the club will not sanction Ronaldo for his early exit but a United insider told SunSport: “It is not a good look to leave early when you have been involved in the squad.
“It is different if you are up in the stands and not involved.
“You would expect someone who has played in the game to be in the changing rooms at the end to listen to the manager’s thoughts.
“Also a lot of people were there to see him and he was not even involved in the clapping of the fans after the final whistle.”
Footage Of Cristiano Ronaldo and Ten Hag having a ‘tense’ chat during the Rayo Vallecano game emerges
Ronaldo had a first-half disagreement with Ten Hag in a break of play.
The manager called the team over while an injured Vallecano player was attended to.
Ten Hag was quite animated in what he wanted Ronaldo to do but the player put his arms out to one side as if in disagreement.
But judging by the below footage, Ronaldo responded by defending himself with his arms outstretched.
Reports also even suggest he was seen ‘rolling his eyes during the ‘tense’ interaction.
Many fans were critical of Ronaldo’s actions on Sunday and after the full-time whistle, Liverpool legend Steve Nicol slammed the striker for leaving Old Trafford early.
“The one thing it tells you is he’s completely disengaged with the club and the team, as simple as that,” he said.
“I’ve seen and I know players and I’ve done it myself who have left before the end of the game but I’ve not been in the team, I’ve not been in the squad and I’ve been ready to leave – I’ve been disgruntled. He’s disengaged with what’s going on at the club.
“This guy actually played and then left before the end, that has got ‘get me out of here’ written all over it.”
