Matiang'i and Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu meet in Nairobi ahead of William Ruto's tour of Kisii
Matiang’i and Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu meet in Nairobi ahead of William Ruto’s tour of Kisii.
Ezekiel Machogu, the cabinet secretary for education, and Fred Matiang’i, the former cabinet secretary for the interior, met with other Gusii leaders on Sunday at a hotel in Nairobi.
The meeting which was chaired by Machogu was aimed at uniting the Gusii community irrespective of political affiliations.
Jimmy Angwenyi, a former deputy majority leader, nominee for solicitor general Shadrack Mose, and businessman John Simba also attended the meeting.
The meeting comes days after CS Machogu stated that he would consolidate all Gusii leaders and discuss development ahead of President William Ruto’s tour to the region later this month.
During the meeting, the leaders also discussed President William Ruto’s scheduled tour of the region later in the month.
CS Machogu had affirmed that he would consolidate all Gusii leaders to unite in a bid to enhance development within the region.
“I will meet and have discussions with all our leaders. We are working as a team to achieve our development goals. Nobody will be left out. Those interested in politicking will have themselves to blame,” Machogu stated.
The Education CS pointed out the pivotal role played in unity among all Gusii leaders in realizing the development agenda.
“No region will be left out, our two counties will have a share of the national cake,” he noted.
This marked Matiang’i’s first appearance since he recorded his statement at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters along Kiambu Road on Thursday, March 9, over claims that police had raided his Karen home.

The whole incident saw a section of Gusii leaders call for the Kenya Kwanza administration to respect the former CS for his contribution to the development of the country during retired president Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.
“It is not fair to parade outgoing government officials before cameras in the name of carrying out investigations. Let us have some respect for those who have such offices.” Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka stated.
According to the DCI, Matiang’i would be charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and publication of false information on an alleged police raid at his Karen home.
His file has been handed over to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji Who will determine if he will charge the former CS or not.
