A Medical officer in Migori kills self inside his mother’s house over suspected family wrangles.

A medical officer, 35, on Thursday committed suicide in Rongo, Migori County, following suspected domestic wrangles.

The body of the deceased, Fredrick Owuor, was found hanging from a rope in his mother’s house in the Kabuoro Sub-location.

Area Assistant Chief Johannes Ooko Malela confirmed the incident but said that the cause of the medical officer’s suicide was yet unknown.

 Unconfirmed reports, however, claimed that he and his wife had marital issues.

The area assistant chief said the matter is still under police investigation.

The body of the deceased was moved to Rosewood Hospital mortuary pending autopsy and police investigations.

Meanwhile, a section of provincial administrators in Migori County have raised concern over rising cases of suicide in the county urging members of the public to use alternative conflict resolution mechanisms.

In the past week, more than two cases of suicide have been reported in Migori County according to police reports.

Cases of suicide have been on the rise amid calls for action to stop the trend. Most of the cases are linked to mental trauma.

According to the Kenya Demographic Health Survey 2022, men aged 15-49 suffer from depression at a rate of 3.1 percent while women of the same age bracket suffer at 4 percent.

The leading causes of people killing self include poverty, unemployment, the death of a loved one, substance abuse, and relationships.
