Mexican Embassy issues statement after reports of cartel meth lab in Kenya
The Mexican Embassy in Kenya has stated that it cannot comment on the arrest of one of its nationals in relation to a meth lab that was operating in Kenya.
In a statement dated Friday, March 21, the Embassy explained that the matter was still on trial hence limiting them from commenting on the suspect.
However, the Embassy expressed that it was assisting the Kenyan authorities regarding the matter.
“In regard to the alleged involvement of a Mexican national in criminal activities in Kenya, the Embassy cannot comment on an ongoing trial,” read the statement in part.
“However, within the framework of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, of which both Mexico and Kenya are part, the Embassy keeps providing the requested consular assistance.”

Meanwhile, the Embassy noted that the Mexican government had made significant steps in dealing with drug trafficking.
The response by the Embassy came after the US State Department revealed that a meth lab, linked with a Mexican cartel was operating in Namanga.
The report by the US indicated that a Mexican national was arrested while trying to flee the country after the police caught up with their operations.
“The lab was linked to the Mexican Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) and was the first confirmed large-scale operation by a Mexican cartel operating in Kenya.”
“On October 4, 2024, based on information passed from the United States, Kenyan officials arrested a CJNG member trying to depart Kenya for Mexico,” read the report in part.
