Miguna Miguna now demands Raila to return the ‘people’s president’ certificate he issued to him during the mock swearing-in.
Miguna Miguna, a lawyer and activist, is now demanding that Raila Odinga return the certificate of the people’s president that was given to him during the 2018 mock swearing-in.
In a tweet sent on Tuesday, November 1, Miguna stated that he has been searching for the leader of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition to reclaim the certificate that was given to him on January 30, 2018.
He said he intends to return the document to the ‘Great People of Kenya’ before Raila retires from active politics.
“I am looking for Raila Odinga so that I can retrieve the Certificate of the People’s President I commissioned and conferred on him at Uhuru Park on January 30, 2018. I intend to return that certificate to the Great People of Kenya before I wheel him to Bondo,” Miguna said.
Miguna presided over Raila’s oath alongside Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang, who acted as the ‘People’s Chief Justice’.
The two leaders were arrested and charged in court with administering an illegal oath.
Miguna was later deported to Canada, where he holds dual citizenship, as Kajwang faced trial in the country.
In 2019, the High Court acquitted Kajwang of treason charges saying the case was politically instigated. Miguna’s case is, however, yet to be concluded.
Miguna returned to the country last month after four years in exile after William Ruto assumed the office of president.
He said he was allowed to travel to Kenya after President William Ruto’s government issued him with a new passport and lifted red alerts imposed against him by the previous administration of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Miguna, who fell out with Raila after his handshake with Uhuru, insists that the former prime minister should exit the political stage after five unsuccessful attempts at the presidency.
