According to the Ministry, parents can check where the learner is through an SMS by sending the learner’s KNEC assessment number to 22263 or the ministry’s portal placements. education.go.ke.
Learners will be required to report to their respective senior secondary schools by Monday, January 12, 2026.
According to the Ministry, the placement was fully automated and considered learners’ choices, performance in KJSEA, psychometric test results, equity considerations, and school capacity.
“The top performers in each STEM, social science, and arts track will get priority placement in boarding schools of their choice,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry of Education announced the results of the 2025 KJSEA examination on Thursday, December 11.
The exams, which took place between October 27 and November 3, were designed to assess the readiness of the pioneer cohort of Competency-Based Education (CBE).
According to the Ministry, a total of 1,130,459 learners sat the 2025 KJSEA, with 578,630 being male, and 551,829 being female.

Earlier this month, the Ministry revealed that parents and learners can change their schools through a formal request to the Ministry.
Parents who wish to do this will be required to make requests through the heads of junior schools at least two weeks before the Grade 10 reporting date, according to the ministry.
However, senior schools shall first be required to declare vacancies through their respective county directors of education. According to the ministry, the replacement process shall be done once, and when completed, the process is irreversible.
Once the replacement request is approved, the ministry shall then issue the joining instruction to the learners online, cautioning that “at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases.”
“The officers involved are required to cooperate and ensure a fair and credible selection and placement process for a smooth transition of students from junior school to senior school,” the Ministry stated.
