Mistrust brewing as ODM accuses Kenya Kwanza of picking hardliners for Ruto-Raila talks

Raila ODM-led party (Orange Democratic Movement) accuses Kenya Kwanza of selecting hardliners to engage Azimio in Ruto-Raila peace talks

Raila ODM-led party (Orange Democratic Movement) accuses Kenya Kwanza of selecting hardliners to engage Azimio in Ruto-Raila peace talks.

ODM has questioned how the peace talks would proceed with hardliners chosen to meet Azimio, indicating that the second round of the peace talks may already be facing challenges due to developing mistrust between the two opposing parties.

ODM communication director Philip Etale in a statement referred to the Kenya Kwanza letter on its team as hogwash, claiming that the crucial talks do not call for the hardliners chosen by the Kenya Kwanza team.

Etale also said the Kenya Kwanza team was already starting on the wrong foot as they had lectured Azimio in their statement.

“When dealing with weighty issues like the current situation in the country, the least Kenya Kwanza should have done would have been to release the names of their hardliners and stop at that lecturing Azimio on matters decency beats the purpose of the process,” he said.

The Odm communications director also faulted Kenya Kwanza for leaving out the cost of living in the agenda, saying the faction belittled Azimio’s priorities in the discussions.

“Kenya Kwanza is not approaching talks with clean hands. They have already begun grandstanding even before the talks begin. They condemned Maandamano, brutalized it, and now want to belittle the talks by making it seem that the struggle was simply for the non-issues listed,” he said.

He said Azimio will issue a comprehensive rejoinder to the team selected by William Ruto.

Kenya Kwanza unveiled its five member team comprising of National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, Governor Cecily Mbarire, East African Legislative Assembly Member (EALA) Hassan Omar and Bungoma woman representative Catherine Wambilianga.

The team will meet their Azimio counterpart led by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, National Assembly Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, Nyamira senator Okong’o Omogeni and Amina Munyasi, MP Malindi.
