Mitego ya State House imewanasa,’ Raila mocks Gachagua over government criticism

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has told his political detractors that he will not back down from his unity deal with President William Ruto.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has told his political detractors that he will not back down from his unity deal with President William Ruto.
Speaking during an Iftar dinner hosted by the Muslim community in Upper Hill, Nairobi, Odinga in a thin-veiled attack told former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to continue eating “humble pie” following Gachagua’s past assertions that he had ring-fenced State House and the government to keep off Odinga.
Odinga noted that he made a clear decision with a purpose in joining President Ruto and laughed off any attempts to pull him back, terming them hypocritical.
“Hatua ambayo tumeichukua, tunaijua, mahali ambapo tunaelekea, tunapajua…Kuna wengine wanatuambia tuelekee upande huu mwingine.
Jana wewe ulikuwa unasema sisi ni nyang’au leo hii sasa sisi tumekuwa malaika; mtu anatoka kuwa nyang’au anakuwa malaika namna gani? Sisi hatuwezi kudanganywa na tunajua mahali tunaenda,” he said amidst laughter from the audience.
“Tunawaambia watu wetu wasimame imara na tuna hakika tutafika lakini hatutaki unafiki wa mtu ambaye awali alikuwa anasema tumeweka mitego…Waswahili husema mtego wa panya huwashika waliomo na wasiomo; sasa wale ambao waliweka mitego, imewanasa.”

Odinga also warned that Kenya is still at the crossroads in ensuring a free and fair election even as he called for a transparent electoral system.
“We still have a problem when it comes to elections. As Kenya, we are yet to reach the level of free and fair elections but that time will come. Until then, all of us must sacrifice. Where we are at the moment, it is not what we wanted but the country must go forward,” he said.
“Let’s continue to stand together because the steps that we have taken, we know where we are going. Kenya is more important than an individual and we must keep defending our nation. We have come from far and we must protect this nation.”
The event was attended by Muslim leaders including Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed who lauded Odinga’s long-standing relationship with the Muslim community from across the country.
