The mother to 12-year-old Kennedy Onyango, who was killed in Ongata Rongai during the protests, has pleaded with President William Ruto to intervene after a court halted the burial.
In a video that was shared by human rights activist, Hussein Khalid, Josinter Anyango begged the President to intervene and help her access the body of her son.
According to, the distraught mother, the body of the son was taken to a nearby mortuary following the court order.
“You have all the powers. After God, you are the second most powerful person in Kenya. Those who have taken my baby are under your authority. Ruto, return my baby,” she stated as she broke down in tears.
Preliminary reports indicate that the burial was halted over a dispute between the family.
“At the burial of 12-year-old Shujaa Kennedy Onyango, Mama Kennedy pleads for assistance after a court order halted the burial of her son in Rusinga, Homa Bay County. The body is presently lying at Kirindo mortuary in Mbita,” Khalid stated.
During the week, a man claiming to be the father of Onyango emerged.

He added that he had not seen his son after his death, adding that he wanted the son to be buried at his ancestral home in Suba.
“I have not seen my son since I heard that he died. I also want to see him, so that I can confirm if he is dead.
“In 2020, the mother came and took him and they went to live in Nairobi. I also want the government to help me bring my son from Nairobi so that he can be buried in Suba.
Onyango was killed after being shot during the anti-Finance Bill protests. According to President Ruto, the 12-year-old was not shot by police, but by a criminal who searched a police weapon.
“Kennedy Onyango was shot by a criminal who snatched a gun from an officer and started shooting indiscriminately,” the Head of State revealed during the X-Space engagement on Friday.
