Murathe reveals why Raila lost to Ruto adding that he’s yet to come terms with Ruto’s win in the August polls.

Embattled Jubilee vice chairman claims the reason Raila Odinga lost in the 2022 general election was mainly because Jubilee had no presidential candidate in the race.

According to Murathe, the party’s choice to support Raila rather than field a candidate may have cost Azimio the votes, particularly in Mt. Kenya.

“The reason mambo ilienda vile ilienda is because Jubilee had no candidate, whenever you go into an election and you have no presidential candidate watu wanaenda hivi hivi,” he told some party delegates during a meeting at the party offices Thursday.

Noting the rigging and vote manipulation claims could be true, Murathe said he is yet to believe they were defeated by the Kenya Kwanza side.

“I have never reconciled in my mind that we lost this election… There could be an element of truth in the rigging but where we are now, we forge ahead,” he added.

Murathe, a key ally of Uhuru was among the leaders who were at the forefront of campaigning for Raila towards the last poll declaring Ruto would never be President as he was “unsuitable”.

Murathe was speaking on Thursday, 11 in a meeting to strategize for the Jubilee Nataional Delegates Conference slated for May 22, at Bomas.

He assured the gathering that they are ready to protect the party from being wrecked by the powerful forces he said are in government.

“Some of us had planned to retire with Uhuru but as it is now we are not going to sit and watch as the party sinks,” he added.

Retired president Uhuru Kenyatta who called the meeting said it is meant to formulate new policies, receive a status report from the National Executive Committee (NEC) and consider and approve any other arising matters.

Two factions, one led by EALA MP Kanini Kega and another by Jeremiah Kioni are fighting for the ownership of the party.
