DP Gachagua has claimed that the impeachment motion against him that was tabled in Parliament has the approval of his boss, President William Ruto.
Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, October 7, Gachagua reiterated that such a motion cannot find its way to the National Assembly without the president’s nod.
“As to the issue that this motion cannot find its way to the National Assembly without the president’s nod, that’s true. It can’t. It has his nod,” Gachagua remarked.
However, responding to the deputy president’s remarks, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah refuted the allegations, stating that MPs did not need permission from the executive to impeach anybody.
In an interview on September 20, the deputy president claimed that for a contentious issue such as an impeachment motion to get to Parliament, it has to be sanctioned by the president.

“Serious and contentious issues such as the impeachment motion are approved in our UDA’s parliamentary group (PG) in our party structure. No one else can establish such a motion. For the motion to reach the floor of the National Assembly, it can only be sanctioned by the president,” Gachagua stated.
Meanwhile, the Deputy President on Monday affirmed that he would not resign from his position, dismissing earlier rumors about his resignation.
Gachagua emphasized that he was elected by over 7 million Kenyans, and therefore, he cannot step down without considering the public’s opinion.
“There was speculation that I wanted to resign. This is a man elected by 7.2 million Kenyans. How dare you suggest to him that he can do so without public participation? I have no intention whatsoever to resign from this job. I will fight to the end,” Gachagua stated.
