A dispute over a woman led to the shooting of a US Embassy official at a Kiambu nightclub.

A fight outside a popular Kiambu nightclub on Saturday night that resulted in the shooting death of an American Embassy engineer began with a dispute between groups accusing each other of seducing their women.

According to police reports, Nason Kiteme and Joseph Njenga are said to have been part of two groups enjoying a night out on Saturday when a disagreement over women escalated.

This was revealed after DCI detectives arrested the two over the shooting incident.

Police explained that the main suspect, a police officer, used his firearm to shoot at the members of the public who were engaged in a brawl outside the club.

“The first respondent was at Quick-in Lounge promoting the music of one musician John Njagi with others when a misunderstanding between the second respondent and his party arose,” a DCI officer investigating the murder told the Kiambu law courts.

“A fight between the two parties started, where the group of the first respondent and the second respondent disagreed about each group accusing the other on seducing their women.”

One of the groups is said to have been under the protection of armed security during the scuffle that spilled outside the nightclub.

“The fight went outside the Quick-in lounge where one group which had armed bouncer shot a reveler who was standing near the fighting zone,” the DCI officer added.

According to investigations, the shooting victim was not involved in the commotion.

CCTV footage captured in the morning when the incident occurred showed that the deceased, a US Embassy engineer was a bystander as a group of revelers engaged in a brawl.

Police however reported that the bullet landed on the victim’s back killing him on the spot.

The police officer who has since been placed in custody, brandished his firearm and fired.

The suspect’s firearm was subsequently confiscated and will undergo a ballistic analysis as police piece together the puzzle.

The deceased was a 35-year-old engineer working at US Embassy in Nairobi.
