Nick Salat reveals his fallout with Gideon Moi after he was suspended from the independence party, KANU
Nick Salat reveals his fallout with Gideon Moi after he was suspended from the independence party, KANU.
Embattled Kenya African National Union (KANU) Party Secretary General Nick Salat has revealed details behind his suspension from the party.
Salat claims that the KANU meeting in Nakuru, where he purportedly urged the leadership structure to quit after a lackluster showing in the August 2022 elections, was the catalyst for his suspension.
“We took stock of our performance in the elections and I was asked what is happening to us because our trajectory has been on the decline since 2013. A party’s strength is measured by the number of elected members it has.
“I said in any functioning democracy, those in leadership including me and the Chairman, should not be in the same position. We should resign and leave others to lead the party,” Salat told the Sunday Nation.
Salat said that although some party members found his remarks disconcerting, he insisted that the critical problems plaguing the party needed to be addressed.
“People were shocked because those questions have never been asked before. We have just been sitting and praising the leadership. I said you cannot have a big name and no results to show for it,” he said.
The outspoken politician says he is prepared for questioning even if his relationship with KANU has dwindled.
“Yes, I will appear to clear my name. If I don’t, it will appear that I’m running away from accountability. I will face them and tell them the truth,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the embattled KANU secretary general has joined President Ruto’s camp.
Speaking on Sunday, January 15 in Bomet, Ruto did welcome Nick Salat adding that he’s open to working with everybody.
“Welcome Nick Salat so that we can work together. If my brother Isaac Ruto agrees, we will also work together and I will organize how that will happen,” the President stated.
The former MP had earlier stated that he is ready to follow Ruto after staying in the cold for 15 years.
“I know you will be President for 10 years. I saw the great reception that you were accorded in Nyanza and I cannot be left behind. Wherever you are, I will be. I have suffered too long, please accept me back,” Salat pleaded with the President.
