A National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer and 13 DCI officers have been charged with the murder of two Indians and a Kenyan taxi driver who were killed prior to the 2022 polls.
In a statement dated Thursday, February 20, the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) noted that evidence showed that the officers were involved in the killing of Mohammed Zaid Sami Kidwali and Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan, and Nicodemus Mwania (a Kenyan).
Notably, the two Indians had been linked with the campaign team of President William Ruto.
ODPP added that the DCI officers were attached to the defunct Special Service Unit (SSU).
“The court heard that on the night of 22nd July and 23rd July 2022, near Ole Sereni Hotel along Mombasa Road within Nairobi County, jointly with others not before court, the accused abducted and killed the three aforementioned persons,” read the statement in part.

“The officers were actively serving in the various security agencies at the material time with the police officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) under the now disbanded Special Service Unit (SSU) wing.”
The charged officers include Peter Muthee Gachiko, James Kibosek, Joseph Kamau Mbugua, David Chepchieng, Joseph Mwenda, John Mwangi, and Hillary Limo (Corporals) plus Stephen Luseno, Simon Muhuga, Paul Njogu, Boniface Otieno, Elkana Njeru and Fredrick Thuku, John Wanjiku Macharia and Michael Kiplangat.
The 14 security officers pleaded not guilty.
The case will be mentioned on March 20, 2025, for directions.
During the mention date, the court will also give a directive on the ruling date on bail and bond application.
