ODM announces schedule for its grassroots elections

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has announced it will hold its grassroots elections on April 7, 2025 and April 9, 2025. 

In a statement on Thursday, ODM National Elections Coordinating Committee chairperson Emily Awita said ward elections are slated for Monday, April 7 at designated centers across all counties in the country.

Constituency elections will on the other hand be held on April 9, 2025, across all the 290 constituencies.

“Following the successful Polling Unit elections conducted on 27th November 2024, the NECC wishes to announce that Sub-Branch (Ward) Elections will take place on Monday 7th April 2025 at designated centers across the Forty-Seven (47) Counties.

“That Branch (Constituency) Elections will be held on Wednesday 9th April 2025, at designated centers across the 290 Constituencies nationwide,” the statement reads in part.

According to Awiti, a total of a total of 77 Party officials will be elected at the Sub-Branch and Branch levels, across four Committees; mainstream, women’s league, youth league, and disability league.

Positions in the mainstream category include: Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Treasurer, Deputy Treasurer, Organizing Secretary, and Deputy Organizing Secretary.

Positions in the Women’s League, Youth League, and Disability League include: Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Organizing Secretary, Deputy Organizing Secretary, Treasurer, and Deputy Treasurer. 

Other positions are; Secretary for Women, Secretary for Youth, Secretary for Disability, and Special Interest Group Representative.

Awiti mentioned that the voting will take place between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM on the respective election dates and the elections will be conducted through consensus or voting by a show of hands.

Further, she announced that only delegates elected at the polling unit level would be eligible to participate as voters or candidates.

ODM delegates who have not paid the Ksh100 fee for the Polling Unit elections will not be eligible to participate in the Sub-Branch elections.
