ODM blames Gachagua over Kahiga’s vile remarks following Raila’s death

ODM blames Gachagua over Kahiga's vile remarks following Raila's death
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party led by National Chairperson, Gladys Wanga, has hit out at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, claiming he is the one who sent Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga to make disparaging remarks about the demise of Raila Odinga.
Speaking in a press briefing on Wednesday morning, Wanga claimed that Kahiga was a mouthpiece for Gachagua, as the latter had previously made similar remarks.
“What I know is that Kahiga does not speak for himself. Kahiga is the Spokesperson of Rigathi Gachagua,” she claimed.
“Rigathi Gachagua mocked Raila’s illness and asked whether he was a virus and whether Kalonzo was a bacterium. To date, Rigathi Gachagua has yet to mourn Raila, who braved political tensions to go mourn his brother, the late Nderitu Gachagua.”
This follows Governor Kahiga’s remarks on Tuesday, in which he appeared to celebrate Raila’s demise, implying that his passing would redirect all the developments that had been diverted to the Nyanza region back to the Mount Kenya region.

As such, Governor Wanga claimed that the party would not associate with any of Gachagua’s acquaintances, including Kahiga or anyone else, whether they were part of ODM or not.
“The principle is that the friend of your enemy is your enemy,” Wanga said.
Highlighting Kahiga’s role as not only the governor of Nyeri County but also the Vice Chairperson of the Council of Governors (COG), she called for his resignation.
Moments after the statement, however, the Nyeri governor stepped down from his role in the COG, while issuing an apology to the Raila family.
He claimed that his remarks were not celebratory but just an observation based on the current happenings of the broad-based government. He further emphasised that the remarks were his own and did not reflect the views of the Mount Kenya region, his political affiliation or the COG.
“I want to sincerely apologise to our mourning nation, to the family of the Rt. Hon Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga; Mama Ida Odinga, her children Rosemary, Junior, and Winnie, Hon. Senator Oburu Odinga, and Hon. MP Ruth Odinga, the ODM fraternity, the Luo Nation, and Kenyans at large,” Kahiga said in the statement.
“My remarks were in no way celebratory. What I meant is that under the current broad-based government, we have seen skewed development and, politically, the loss of the Rt. Hon Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga sends everyone back to the drawing board,” he added.
