Oparanya vows to stand firm in ODM party claiming President Ruto is behind his woes after his arrest by EACC.

Wycliffe Oparanya, the ODM’s deputy party leader, has declared he will resist any Kenya Kwanza’s demand to join their coalition.

The former Kakamega governor was arrested on Wednesday alongside his wives over alleged embezzlement of Sh1.3 billion shillings during his tenure.

Speaking on Saturday in Vihiga, he said the ruling party should be content with Prime Minister CS Musalia and Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula.

“You can’t force me to join your coalition,” Oparanya said.

“You have Mudavadi and Wetangula. Why are you fighting to have me in your camp at any cost? I am in ODM and I will remain in ODM.”

The former governor was speaking at the memorial service of Byrum Makokha at Ibubi Girls’ Secondary School in Luanda subcounty.

Oparanya said he will stand firm and remain loyal to his party ODM, which is currently under the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

“Whether you jail me for the next 100 years or not, no amount of threats will bring me down, I promise the Kenya Kwanza government,” he said.

Oparanya said he had served as an MP for 10 years, minister for five years and governor for 10 years.

“You can’t tell me for all these years I have been in politics until I have exited, now is the time you have realised that I have stolen. That’s impossible,” he said.

“This is a clear indicator that you are mixing politics and leadership, which is not good.”
