Man hacks his 68-year-old mother to death for cooking bananas instead of Ugali in Murang’a County.

Murang’a police are investigating into an incident where a 68-year-old woman was slain by her son in Gaturo village following an altercation.

According to reports, the woman, identified as Magdalene Wangechi, was hacked to death by her son, Patrick Irungu, aged 36.

Wangechi had prepared bananas, according to family members, but Irungu demanded ugali.

The two are said to have started arguing after Irungu insisted on being served ugali by his 68-year-old mother.

James Njoroge, a family member, said Irungu grabbed a machete and beheaded his mother, leading to her death.

“In the ensuing argument, the man, who is profiled to be a substance abuse addict, grabbed a machete and beheaded his mother,” said Njoroge.

Murang’a South Deputy County Commissioner Gitona Murungi said neighbours heard the two arguing loudly in their home before the verbal confrontation turned tragic.

“Neighbours said they heard a commotion followed by a scream, prompting them to rush to the scene. First responders found the woman lying in a pool of blood with his son standing nearby,” Murungi said.

After committing the crime, Irungu is said to have attempted to escape to a nearby bush, but angry residents caught up with him.

“After neighbours recovered from the initial shock, they pursued the man who had sneaked outside the house in an attempt to escape,” Murungi said.

The local administrator said that the neighbours caught up with him in a nearby thicket, where they subjected him to mob justice, leading to his death.
