Pakistani releases findings on Arshad Sharif’s killing in Kenya, says ‘shooting was planned’
Pakistani releases findings on Arshad Sharif’s killing in Kenya, ruling out the case of misidentification.
On Tuesday, November 8, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah declared that journalist Arshad Sharif was intentionally shot.
In a news conference, the Minister rejected out the earlier claim made by Kenyan police that the gunshot was the result of a misidentification.
He described how relevant authorities evaluated some of the case’s submitted evidence before coming to their judgment.
However, the Minister insisted that additional proof is still required despite the ongoing investigation into the killing.
“Arshad Sharif’s death is not a case of mistaken identity – I can say, and, on the evidence we have so far, this prima facie is a targeted killing.
“We still need to obtain more (evidence) to confirm all this … and we have asked the Kenyan government for more data,” stated Sanaullah as per Reuters.
The National Police Service (NPS) initially classified the shooting death of journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya as a case of mistaken identity.
Even though the panel established by the Pakistani government has not yet provided findings regarding the shooting’s motivation, the recent results provide new insight on the murder.
Since the journalist’s death, the Pakistani government has sent a task force to Kenya to assist with the investigation.
