Parents Association wants gov’t to postpone school reopening date in order to accommodate students transitioning to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS).

Parents have urged the government to postpone the reopening date of the schools weeks before classes resume for the new academic year to ensure the creation of suitable infrastructure in accordance with the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

The current reopening date is Monday, January 23.

Silas Obuhatsa, the chairperson of the National Parents Association (NPA), claims that the change will also accommodate pupils transferring to junior secondary schools (JSS).

He added that it would be able to build the classrooms and laboratories in one to two months.

“The government has the right to postpone schools reopening for one or two months to have these structures in place before learning can resume,” he noted.

Obuhatsa emphasized that the Ksh44 billion National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), which is being released in phases by the National Treasury, will be used to finance the action.

“We cannot afford to lose the gains at a time when the nation is going through economic hardships. Parents deserve all government support because they are the ones who put this administration in place.

“They woke up very early to vote while some LSK members were enjoying their sleep in warm blankets,” he noted.
