Police deployed to all roads leading to State House amid fears of protests organized by Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

On Wednesday, March 8, Kenya Police set up roadblocks on all roads leading to the State House in Nairobi and state residences all around the country.

In Nairobi, a large number of police officers were stationed in the area in preparation for a rally by Kenyans protesting the country’s high cost of living.

State House Road, State House Avenue, Processional Way, and portions of Dennis Pritt are some of the roadways where roadblocks have been placed.

A separate police contingent was also deployed to secure the Kisumu County State Lodge.

As early as 6 am, the teams had arrived and at times turned away motorcyclists.

The officers said they were under instructions not to allow the motorcyclists as they could be used to ferry crowds to State House for the protests.

This came even amid confusion on if the planned mass action by Azimio la Umoja leaders would continue.

The 14-day ultimatum issued by the leaders ends Wednesday and there have been meetings to plan the mass action, officials said.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga reminded President William Ruto that he has until Wednesday midnight to respond to their grievances, which were issued at Jeevanjee gardens in Nairobi.

Raila on February 22, gave the Ruto administration a 14-day ultimatum to address his concerns about the high cost of living, electoral injustice, and skewed sharing of state jobs.

Raila had asked his supporters to stand firm saying upon the expiry, street protests will begin if Ruto fails to heed the demands.

However, Ruto brushed off Raila’s demands remarking he would not be intimidated by the opposition while dispensing his constitutional mandate.
