Police assure of maximum security at Uhuru Jubilee National Delegates Conference (NDC) at Ngong Racecourse.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei has assured of maximum security at Jubilee’s National Delegates Congress to be held at the Ngong Racecourse on Monday.

A faction led by Former President Uhuru Kenyatta plans to use the conference to kick out party members allied to East Africa Legislative Assembly MP Kanini Kega; who are also supporting President Ruto.

According to a source within the police, more than 50 police officers have been dispatched to the event’s location.

This is in preparation for any pandemonium that might arise between the group supporting Kega and the group backing Uhuru.

“We are aware of the event and will do the necessary. We will provide the needed security to the event,” Bungei said.

The meeting by Uhuru comes just days after Kega’s faction expelled vice chairperson David Murathe and Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni.

Kega has maintained that there will be no NDC saying the party will notify members of such a meeting when it will be convening one.

“Some are saying there will be a meeting tomorrow (Monday) for the NDC. Let me clarify as the party’s Secretary General that there will be no NDC meeting tomorrow,” Kega said.

Uhuru announced a change of venue for the NDC, moving it to the Ngong’ Racecourse after he was locked out of the Bomas of Kenya.

“Notice is hereby given that the venue of the Jubilee NDC has been moved to Ngong Racecourse, Nairobi. All other details remain as in the notice issued on April 29, 2023,” Uhuru said in a notice published in local dailies on Saturday.

Kega’s camp, which has Nominated MP Sabina Chege among other leaders has since aligned itself with President William Ruto.

They have opposed Uhuru’s role, saying the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act stops a retired president not to hold office in a political party six months after their last day as president.
